Getting started

Create your ForestVPN account, install the app, and protect your first device in a few minutes.

ForestVPN keeps your connection private by default — no logs, no fuss. This guide takes you from a fresh account to a protected device in a few minutes.

Create your account

Head to the sign-up page and create an account with your email. ForestVPN uses a secure hosted sign-in, so your password is entered on the login page and never on a marketing page — you're handed off to sign in and returned once you're done.

Once you're in, you land on your dashboard. From here you can add devices, manage your subscription, and create private networks (we call them VSpaces).

Install the app

Download the app for your platform and sign in with the same account:

  • iPhone & iPad — from the App Store.
  • Mac — from the Mac App Store.
  • Apple TV — from the App Store on tvOS.
  • Android — from Google Play.
  • Windows & Linux — command-line clients are in development; there is no public build to download yet (see the downloads page for honest status).

The app signs you in with the same hosted login you used on the web, so there's nothing extra to configure.

Connect for the first time

Open the app and press Connect. ForestVPN picks a fast nearby location and brings up an encrypted tunnel. When the status reads Connected, everything leaving your device travels through that encrypted tunnel.

To choose a specific country instead, open the location list and pick one — the app reconnects through it.

Check that you're protected

Open a page that shows your public IP address (search "what is my IP"). After you connect, it should show a ForestVPN location instead of your usual one. If the location changed, you're protected.

What if the network blocks VPNs?

You don't have to do anything. On networks that throttle or block standard VPN protocols, ForestVPN adapts automatically — it reshapes its traffic and, if a direct path is blocked, falls back to a relay — so your connection keeps working. See Troubleshooting if you're still stuck.
